As I was driving to work my favorite song from 2021 started playing practice by Drake. I began to sing the lyrics but realized I was singing the lyrics of a new song Drake had just dropped and couldn't remember the lyrics to the older song Practice. I was experiencing retroactive interference.
While waiting for the children of the corn I coach, I felt a breeze that I felt the first time I stepped into Gallatin Elementary when I was 10. All the memories and friendships I created all of a sudden began to flood my memory just from the breeze. My sudden rush of memory's were triggered through a type of memory State- Dependent.
After all the children of the corn arrived I explained we were going to warm up first and all the had to do was run with with ball straight then turn right. I placed cones to guide them but they still got lost. I don't even think they encoded my explanation to short term memory. My explanation to them probably only went through sensory memory a brief 1-2 seconds.
I swear what I say goes in one ear and out the other. Gotta love them.
