The legend behind the Giants causeway is that there was an Irish giant named Finn McCool who created a causeway across the Irish Sea to face his rival, the Scottish giant Benandonner. Following their fearsome meeting Benandonner ripped up the causeway as he fled back to Scotland leave what we see today. Finn McCool's giant boot also lies fossilised at the Giant's Causeway in the bay locals refer to as 'Port Noffer or 'Bay of the giant'

The rest of the legend goes like so Benandonner across the Irish sea in Scotland was threating Ireland and Finn retaliated by tearing up chunks from the Antrim coastline and hurled then into the sea. The newly created path (The Giants Causeway)paved a route over the sea for Finn to reach Benandonner, however this turned out to be a bad idea as Benandonner was a massive giant much bigger than Finn. In order to save himself Finn retreated by to Northern Ireland and disguised himself as a baby by his quick-thinking wife.

When Benandonner arrived and seen Finn disguised as a bay he realises that if the baby is that then the father must have been far larger than Benandonner himself, following the realisation Benandonner rushed back over to Scotland and tearing up as must of the Causeway as he can in his haste to put as much distance between Scotland and Northern Ireland.
