Wow! Nobody knows who I am, and they think I'm just a regular person in the school, and not the deformed kid that I am.
As August walks through the hallway he feels happy that no one can notice him because of his Halloween costume. With his mask covering his deformed face, everyone was finally treating him like a normal person, rather than a boy with TCS.

Walking down the hallway, August sees a kid with the same costume as him who suddenly high-fives him. He feels happy and knew that day would be the most amazing day of his life.

"Mr. Tushman asked me to hangout with him in the beginning of the year, and he must have told all the teachers to put us next to each other in all our classes. He always follows me around." (pg.77)

Yo Jack. "Why do you hang out with August so much?" (pg.77) He's a deformed kid, nobody would want to be friends with him.
When August walks into the classroom he overhears his best friend Jack and his bully Julian talking to each other. Jack tells Julian that he's being forced to talk to August and didn't want to be his friend in the first place, them not realizing August was in the classroom.
