Hey! friends... I'm Mr. Carrot.. and today I will take you to aroller coaster ride through the Human Digestive System.Without any further delay let me slide into this big slimy mouth where I am being chewed and moistened by the digestive enzymes. Here I am being broken down into simpler substances.Oh how soft I have become..!!
Suddenly, a trap door opened and I was swallowed down a long tube called the oesophagus (gullet). The oesophagus is a 10 inch tube that connects the mouth to the stomach… Boy, was I scared!!!!
Then, I landed in a soupy pool. “This is supposed to be the stomach”, I think. There I am being churned around with gastric juices that contain chemicals called acids and enzymes. These enzymes turn food into a thick soup-like substance, called chyme.
Now, we enter the small intestine. The liver sends bile to the gallbladder, which holds it until I arrive. Tiny projections called villi absorb my molecules and the leftover fibre, water, and dead cells. Here also carbohydrates break down into simple sugars, fats break down into fatty acids/glycerol and proteins break down into amino acids. After all that I go to the worst place.... THE LARGE INTESTINE!!!!
Here we are, the large intestine, or the colon. The colon drains out most of the fluid through the intestinal walls. This leaves a soft mass called stool. this is like my temporary old age home.... And then I go out of this home and in the washroom
The large intestine deposits me in a small pouch where I am held until I leave the body through the anus. And this long journey through the digestive system, which takes about 30-40 hrs, finally ends, and so does our journey... Bye friends!!! I hope you found this journey knowledgeable !!! Keep learning!!!
