- The Kansas Nebraska act of 1854, opened a whole new area of the American heartland to settlement that it also opened a region to the possible spread of slavery. That made them launch a firestorm that created the path of Civil War. The territory used to be owned by the French 50 years earlier in the Louisiana purchase it was set aside to the Indians and cloths for the white settlement, but business wanted it so they could build a railroad through it.

- Stephen A Douglas, introduced a bill to organize the region into two territories, after the Indian rights were rescinded. For 2 states Kansas and Nebraska a necessary step for future development. He had thought of this idea that is called popular sovereignty, that that was where the people would decide for themselves if they wanted slavery or not. There was a big war in Kansas about wanting slavery and not wanting slavery and that is why Kansas is called Bleeding Kansas.

- The war that was in Kansas the south wanted Kansas to be a slave state and the north wanted them to be a free state that's what the whole fight was about. Everyone tried to rush over to Kansas and try to get them on their side as soon as they can. The fight was between the two sides in 1858, over 200 people died from this war, and this had spilled over to the civil war that kill 200,000 lives by 1865
