Long ago, a smart and kind king ruled over Latium. He had only one flaw: his brother, Aemilius. His brother had always tried to win the kingdom. He would somehow try to have something be done to his brother so he could get the throne. One sad day, his wishes came true. Aemilius ruled and banished his brother's daughter to the temple of Mars so she could not have any children that could take over. But the sequence of events didn't go quite as planned. The daughter had actually won the heart of the war god himself. Together, they had two lovely twins: Romulus and Remus. But sadly, they had to part with their parents soon after the new king heard about it. He immediately had them sentenced to death.
Two servants were given the task of killing the children, and they decided on drowning them. They put them in a basket and pushed them in the river where they would drown, quickly running away from the scene so they wouldn't be suspected. But, again, it didn't go according to plan. The basket acted as a boat, and the babies floated away into the night. For a while, they lay asleep, until their hunger filled cries spread into the night. As they drifted, a mother wolf heard their cries. Though she was extremely afraid of humans, her motherly instincts kicked in, and she called them her own. She brought them up for many months, until a shepherd named Faustulus spotted the children and took them while they were asleep.
WAAAHH!!!
Why me?
In Romulus and Remus's free time, they would take from thieves and deliver it to the victim. By doing this, they gained a reputation and became quite popular among the citizens. Soon enough, even their uncle who was locked up for many years had heard about their kind deeds and requested to meet them.
The shepherd, Faustulus, took the twins into his home. For many years, he and hiswife took great care of them. Both of the twins would help the shepherd herd sheep They brought them up askind people who cared forothers.
Their grandpa, Numitor, was struck by their resemblance to his daughter and questioned them about their story. When he heard their story, it occured to him that the story exactly matched the story of his daughter's sons. He immediately ordered them to defeat his brother and rightfully claim the throne.
As step one of their master plan to gain back the throne, they grew an army out of the people they helped over the years. Then, they crept into the castle at night to attack Aemilius and his army while they were asleep. Lastly, they went to the temple of Mars to rescue their mother after years of imprisonment. After they had the throne, they new buildings be built and they created their own little city.
THE END
They city was beautiful, until a problem arose: who would it be named after. Romulus said it should be Rome; Remus said it should be Rem. This led to a skirmish which led to Remus's death. Now, there stands a most wonderful city with the name Rome.
