- And it does, I tried escaping and building a better life but I couldn't. I wanted Sonny to grow up proud and happy in Harlem but even there, he couldn't escape it
- It's like were born fighting battles you all already fought. I feel the weight of what you went through and it still holds me down to this day. Racism is a lasting obstacle that cannot be overcame.
- That fear stays. After prison, I saw how they trap us in the same system. It's like a curse that keeps coming back.
