It is estimated that more than 12 million slaves were brought from Africa to America and that more than 1 million died during transport. The men were kept in chains and stacked close together like timber, the women and children were kept separate from the men. All were kept under appalling conditions.
come on. Keep working.
At the plantations, the slaves lived in small wooden houses. Often several slaves shared a house with hardly any furniture. They were given two sets of clothes, one for the winter and one for the summer. some plantation owners treated the slaves better then others.

Alexander Barrow (1801-1846). Studied law, but later became a plantation owner. He lived in Louisiana.
Slaves worked from sun up to sun down with hard psychical labor. If they did not work hard enough, completed the work on time, or were "lazy" they could risk being punished.
The women working in the household were treated better than the slaves working out in the fields. Still, they had to work long hours.
