- Think of it like this, there is A piece of popcorn that has been broken into bits but glued together, which is the nucleus.
- But some of those pieces have different charges the smaller pieces have a positive charge which are protons,
- the bigger pieces are neutral, those are neutrons. And those circles spinning around are shells that have grains of salt on them but those are actually electrons
- Now, depending on what element it is it will have different amounts of salt grains,
- Different popcorn pieces have different amount of pieces, this is known as the mass number.
- And based on the amount of electrons, neutrons, protons and shells is where they sit on the periodic table.
