  • An enzyme called Primase starts the process of replication. This enzyme makes a small piece of RNA called a primer
  • DNA Ligase
  • Primase
  • Helicase
  • Lagging
  • Leading
  • Next, 2 enzymes called DNA polymerase I and III bind to the primer. The main function of this enzyme is a duplication of the chromosomal DNA. DNA polymerase I add in the 3’ to 5’ direction (Leading strand) and DNA polymerase III adds to the 5’ to 3’ direction (Lagging strand)
  • DNA Pol. I
  • Primase
  • 3'
  • 5'
  • The lagging strand is placed in chunks called Okazaki fragments. After all the DNA is made DNA polymerase I removes all the RNA primers from both strands of DNA
  • DNA Pol. I
  • Primase
  • 5'
  • 3'
  • DNA ligase seals up the fragments of DNA in both strands to form a continuous double strand. Lastly, an enzyme called exonucleases proofreads the remaining DNA and DNA polymerase I repairs any errors.
  • WOW THATS AMAZING
  • DNA Ligase
  • IM READY
  • And there Kyle is DNA replication. Ready to go back?
  • DNA Replication
  • Its was great help Mr. Rims. I have a great understanding of the enzymes used, steps and bases of DNA replication!!!
  • I'm glad that demonstration helped Kyle. You better get home and start studying for the test
