Storyboard Szöveg

  • Sid Roy: It has been discovered that Flint 's running water contains high levels of lead. It is unsafe to use it!
  • Stop using tap water! It is poisonous!
  • Sid Roy: Flint was once the home of General Motors, and large amounts of industrial waste has been dumped into its river over time. This makes the water highly corrosive with elements like iron, copper, and chloride.
  • Sid Roy: Chloride especially is high in amount because of the road salts (Cl-) that fall in the river during Michigan's cold winter.
  • Sid Roy: What makes chloride dangerous is the fact that it corrodes the pipelines in Flint, which are all made out of lead. When chloride reacts with lead, it allows lead particles to come off the pipe and enter the water.
  • Orthophosphate lining
  • Sid Roy: A way to solve this problem is by adding orthophosphates into the pipes, which are a type of phosphoric acid that forms a protective coating that prevents lead from leaching even if chloride is present.

  • Sid Roy: The reasons for why Flint's government is not using orthophosphates are still unclear. However, as of now, countless people are still suffering from cognitive failure, learning disabilities, body pains, hair loss, and rashes due to the lead-contaminated water.
