- DNA was discovered through a series of experiments. The following comic book gives a brief history lesson on the identification of the genetic material and the major players who took part in its discovery!

- Since phosphate can only be found in DNA, Hershey and Chase injected the virus with radioactive phosphate and centrifuged the sample. In conducting the experiment they found that the radioactive DNA that was injected into the bacteria was inherited and passed on to the new generation.

- Sulfur is only found in proteins and not DNA. Knowing this information, Hersey and Chase injected the virus with radioactive sulfur and centrifuged the sample. In conducting the experiment they found that the radioactive DNA that was injected into the bacteria did not enter into the bacteria nor was the radio active viral protein passed onto the new generation of bacteria
- Herhesy and Chase found that DNA had some function in new generations of bacteria, whereas protein did not. Gathered from their results, Heresy and Chase proved that DNA is the molecule of heredity!
