- Scene 6: Later that day, Ibarra organized a banquet. Padre Damaso insulted Ibarra's father's memory over the delicious supper that night under a decorated kiosk.
- ...in this life, the fathers of such vipers are punished. They die in jail!
- Scene 7: Ibarra and Elias stopped at Capitan Tiago's residence after escaping from jail.
- You hate me and your hatred will embitter me until I die.
- On one of the painful nights of my suffering, a man revealed the name of my real father to me and then forbade my love for you…unless my real father would forgive the injury you have done to him.
- Scene 8: Ibarra and Elias then headed to the lake.

- Padre Damaso, who was present at the feast, made a public attack on Ibarra's dead father's dignity. The enraged host pounced at the ill-mannered friar with a dagger, almost killing Damaso if Maria Clara had not intervened just in time. Ibarra was excommunicated as a result, and his engagement to Maria Clara was called off after Damaso convinced Capitan Tiago to forbid the lady from marrying Ibarra.
- Scene 9: Elias arrived in the forest, gravely wounded, and discovered the altar boy Basilio wailing over the body of his deceased mother, Sisa.
- I shall die without seeing the dawn break upon my homeland.You, who shall see it, salute it! Do not forget those who have fallen during the night.
- Ibarra's foes staged a helpless attack on the Guardia Civil station one day, leading the assailants to assume Ibarra was the instigator of the insurrection. Ibarra was indicted and detained when the attempt failed. Elias aided Ibarra in eluding capture. They made a quick stop at Capitan Tiago's residence before departing. Maria Clara vindicated that she was pressured by Padre Salvi into handing up Ibarra's letter in return for the letters written by her deceased mother. Padre Damaso was her true father, she discovered through these documents.
- EPILOGUE
- Ibarra and Elias then sailed away. Elias told Ibarra to lie down and then covered him with grass to hide his presence. They were noticed by their adversaries, as luck would have it. Elias jumped into the sea, believing he could outsmart them. The guards poured bullets down on him, completely unaware that they were shooting at the wrong man.

- Basilio's mother had gone insane after learning that her two sons, altar boys Crispin and Basilio, had vanished from the monastery. Crispin had been tortured and executed by the evil and deceitful sacristan mayor after being falsely accused of stealing from the monastery. Basilio had gotten away, and Salvi had covered up his brother's death.Elias, knowing he would die eventually, told Basilio to build a funeral pyre and burn his and Sisa's remains to ashes.
- Capitan Tiago developed an opium addiction. Maria Clara entered the nunnery in tears, assuming Ibarra had been shot dead in the river. Padre Salvi left his church in San Diego to work as a nunnery chaplain. Some speculate that Salvi, who was presented as having a latent yearning for Maria Clara, abused her in the nunnery on a frequent basis. As an outcome, one rainy night at the top of the monastery, a lovely insane woman was spotted furiously sobbing and denouncing the sky for the misery it had placed upon her. The woman's identity was unknown, although it was thought that she was Maria Clara.
