  • Welcome to the Sahara! The Sahara desert covers over 3.6 million square miles of Africa. It is located north on a map of Africa. Despite being very big (about the size of the U.S), few people live here. The Sahara has an extremely hot and dry climate. Some areas do not get rain for many years! The Sahara has scarce water. But there are two rivers, the Nile and Niger. These rivers not only serve as a water source, but also a trade route. Another common way of transportation are camels. They provide another way of transportation for the very few people living here. For example, people who need water can travel by camel to get water from the Nile or Niger river. The biggest danger here is the severe heat.

  • This is the Savanna! The Savanna covers almost half of Africa. We are in the largest part, which is the closest to the equator. During summer, the Savanna is green with thick grass. In the winter, like now, the grass turns brown, and grass fires occur. The climate here is warm all year. Most people in the Savanna live nearby in big cities in countries like Kenya or Tanzania. Some parts of the Savanna near big cities have land open for farming, and rising populations. This has a negative effect. As roads are being built, it takes away animals natural habitats. For example, trees are cut down, and a road is built in part of the Savanna. This removes some of the animals habitats.

  • This is our last stop, the Tropical Rainforest. The Rainforest is located near Africa's equator. It is referred to as the Congo Basin. It has a warm and humid climate. Being near the equator contributes to its warm climate. It provides a trade route to six different African countries including; Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, DRC, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon. The Congo Basin provides goods like food, medicine, water, materials, and shelter for millions of people. For example, a group of people living nearby the river can get water and find resources in the rainforest. The Congo Basin is in danger of logging, and mainly deforestation. This has a bad impact on the environment. Deforestation can lead to extinction of all the plants and animals home to the Congo Basin Rainforest.
  • Where are we now?
