- You do and there'll be trouble
- Well, why don't you lie down and close your eyes and let your imaginary friend read it to you?
- We talk about everything, I tell him about our house back in Berlin, Karl and Daniel and Martin, et cetera.
- How Interesting.
- He sounds like a barrel of laughs. I wish he was my imaginary friend
- He tells me about his family and the boys ho he used to play with but he doesn't anymore because they disappeared without even saying goodbye
- Bruno just wanted to be left alone until he realises he can finally talk to someone about Schmuel with telling them about his existence
- And yesterday he told me that his grandfather hasn't been seen for days and no one knows where he is and whenever he asks his father about him he starts crying and hugs him so hard that's he's worried he's going to squeeze him to death
- Gretel had thought that beingsarcastic was the highest forms of being sophisticated so she had tried to apply it in her conversations
- Bruno continues telling Gretel about Schmuel
- If father knew you were talking to imaginary friends, you'd be in for it. I think you should stop.
- I should apologise to Schmuel tomorrow
- Bruno got to the end of his sentence and realized that his voice had gone very quiet. These were things that Shmuel had told him, but for some reason he hadn't really understood at the time how sad that must have made his friend
- Bruno thought about how miserable Schmuel's life must have been. Bruno had always talked about himself and never actually thought about anything Schmuel said
- Bruno felt guilty for what he has done to Schmuel and wanted to make things right the day after.
