- Mildred and Montag decided to share the books and read them to some of Mildred's friends. They realized that books are actually meaningful and thought society would be so much better with books in people's lives. Poems are being read to 2 of Mildred's friends.
- Mildred's friends are afraid of Mildred and Montag because they showed rebellion against society by having and reading books. They tell Captain Beatty about Montag, even though Beatty was kind of already suspicious about Montag in the first place.
- Captain Beatty and the other firemen show up at Montag's house and force him to burn his own house down, with the books inside. Beatty then releases 2 mechanical hounds upon Mildred and Montag because they betrayed the government and broke the law.
- Mildred and Montag escape the hounds and are fleeing the city while trying not to get caught by any people or government forces. Faber tells them to go to the river together and follow the railroad tracks where they can get away and start a new life together.
- Mildred and Montag made it to the river, where they encounter the hounds, once again. They fight the hounds off together, and lay by the river, looking at the stars, wishing they would've realized everything much sooner. They finally find the railroad tracks and follow them as Faber said.
- Mildred and Montag follow the railroad tracks and end up finding Faber. They get so excited to see him because he had helped them escape all along. They tell Faber their plan to leave the city and find somewhere new to live, so they can rebuild their relationship and live in a world where they can read books without the burden.
