Storyboard Szöveg

  • What even is identity theft?
  • Identity theft is a crime in which someone wrongfully obtains and uses another persons personal data, usually for economic gain.
  • Are there any possible ways that I can try to avoid this from happening to me?
  • There are several ways! You can avoid carrying all of your cards and ID in one spot at the same time, be cautious while using an ATM, ...
  • destroy copies of things with personal information before disposing of it, store information in a safe spot at home, review your bank, credit, and annual earnings statements, sign up for the National Do Not Call Registry List,
  • avoid responding to emails asking for personal information, create and use strong passwords for your accounts, and don't put your information into unsecured websites.
  • Wow! That sure is a lot of simple and easy ways! But how can I detect if I have been a victim?
  • Usually, there are obvious signs that someone is trying to commit identity theft. For example, a creditor calling about a past due bill, a package you didn't order showing up on your front step, or a transaction being declined for insufficient funds.
  • If I do detect that fraud has taken place, how can I take action to defend it?
  • There are three steps you are going to want to take. First, contact each of the three credit bureaus online or by phone. Next, you should make sure the company where the fraudulent transaction occurred is contacted. Finally, you might want to complete and Identity Theft Report through the Federal Trade Commission.
  • I just have one more question for you. How important is it to review my free credit report
  • It is extremely important to look over your free credit report because they can help you to see your personal payment history which can help to detect if any identity theft/fraud has occurred.
