Doctors and a social worker complicated situations for professor Mirabella but she was determined and the strength that Gina gave her remained.

- As a teacher and someone who has a family member with autism, one of the many ways to help parents feel heard is by understanding the importance of communication and building a strong relationship with families. Creating a unified and welcoming community in the classroom is essential to let parents feel safe about who will be assisting them and their children.

- Being accessible to parents and letting them know there is open communication throughout the day assures them that my help and assistance are genuine. 
- Supporting and providing parents with information and details during IEP meetings is vital. Make sure they are being heard and their concerns/requests are being noted. 
- Lastly, showing an investment towards the student goes a long way for the parent. They will see you as more than a teacher but as a role model and member of their family.
