- The day of the competition was nerve wracking, and Hazel was just sitting on the stairs, waiting for it to start.
- As she was preparing herself, her worst enemy Everleigh showed up. The only logical explanation would be the Hazel's coach told Everleigh that she should attend the competition as well . Although Everleigh wasn't in Hazel's team, she still trained in the same pool with the same coaches. Everleigh taunted Hazel, and made her feel like she wasn't good enough.
- Ew I didn't know they were inviting losers. Why are you even here anyway? You actually thought you'd be able to make the Olympic team?
- Hazel was just starting to cry when she heard a familiar voice. It was her old friend Grace standing up for her. Although Hazel was very grateful for this, the damage has already been done, and Hazel ran towards the bathroom.
- What is wrong with you? We were having a conversation.
- Hey! Leave her alone.
- Hey Hazel, don't listen to her. She doesn't understand your talent.
- Grace found Hazel, and talked to her. After a while of consoling Hazel, Grace told her that both their goals should be to beat Everleigh's time. Hazel took to this challenge, and went out on deck just in time to compete.
- Hazel got back on deck with a new found confidence that she didn't have before, and she was ready to swim and do her best.
- As Hazel climbed up the block, ready to dive, she saw Everleigh on her block, looking over at Hazel and whispering “coach never believed in you.” This caught Hazel off guard, and as the whistle blew, Hazel completely missed it by around 3 seconds, meaning that once she dove in that water, she would have to speed for her life.
- Coach never believed in you.
