  • The Southern ChristianLeadership Conferencewas also formed in 1957, by more African American leaders including ministers and civil right advocates. Here, voting rights, segregation in public places, and transportation was mainly addressed. Once again, being lead(presidented) by the great Dr. King.

  • The boycott started on the 5th of December, in 1955!

  • About 4 days after Mrs. Parks bus incident, black folks residing in the city of Montgomery, Alabama took a stand and said no just like Mrs. Parks. So for a little over a year, black folks began the Montgomery Bus Boycott, lasting 381 days. The black community rode bikes, engaged in formed carpools, or even walked miles at a time, during this period.

  • Snipers also began shooting up buses. One of which unfortunately killed the two legs of a pregnant black woman on a bus.
  • KLAN..KLAN...KLAN!
  • This boycott brought lot's of acts of violence. A group known as the K.K.K(Ku Klux Klan) bombed, and set fires on the homes and churches of blacks. One including the home of Dr. King on January 30, 1957.

  • The 13th month boycott had proven to be successful. On June 5, 1956 the Federal District court handled the Browder v.s Gayle case, ruling that bus segregation was unconstitutional as it went against the 14th amendment. Then by November of 1956, the Supreme Court ruled that bus segregation laws were officially eliminated.
