- Oh no, the principal has called me to her office. I am going to be in so much trouble, I used a brief portion of someone elses inteluctual property, without their permission, in my project for class when describing the life of a butterfly. I used someone elses picture to show the process. I am going to be in so much trouble because of Copyright laws.
- Now wait a minute Jeremy, you dont even know if thats why you were called here! Plus there is something called Fair Use, which allows a student to use someones copyrighted work when it is being used for educational purposes.
- Wait so you mean that it can be ok to use someone elses work for educational purposes, because of Fair Use?!
- Thats right, but there are some stipulations, if you plan to share your project with the world, you need to acknowledge copyright laws of the work you used. If you only used a brief portion for teaching/educational purposes, and changed enough of the material, it is ok to share it, you dont have to worry about copyright laws, all thanks to Fair Use!
- Wow thanks Sara! I respect the original creators work, I used mostly my own materials and only a little of their work to help explain my project! Plus I dont plan to share it, just use it for my teacher and class to see! Thank goodness for Fair Use!
