- Cia - Reluctant Hero (She is forced by the government to assume a role of leadership to survive when she simply wants to attend the University. In this role, she is discovering her true identity.)
- Dr. Jedidiah Barnes - Wise Old Man/Mentor (Throughout the story Dr. Jedidiah Barnes gives Cia tests and tries to get her through tragedies to get her to become a great leader)
- Zeen - Anti-Hero (He invents the edible skin potato and also supports Cia with her dreams.)
- Ryme - Trickster (She tries tricking Cia into eating one of her corn cakes which might be poisoned throughout the story.)
- Michel - Wise Old Man (He helps Cia and Cia considers him her friend but still has little trust in him.
