  • Comic creation serves as a prewriting strategy to help students in special education who struggle with narrative writing because it is a visual scaffolding method by allowing students to visually see a sequence. Comic creation also allows students to be able to have fun while they write and not be as intimidating as a paragraph.

  • Traditional writing tools are difficult for students in special education because it can be challenging for students to write in the correct sequence. Students also may struggle holding the pencil and/or with spelling. Digital tools allows student to be creative, visually see the sequence of events, and allow events to be moved around. Students also can make each comic strip unique with layouts to their learning style that best suits their narrative needs.
