Subsistence agriculture is a type of agriculture practised for the domestic consumption of the farmers!
It can be classified into two types- primitive, which includes shifting agriculture and nomadic herding, and intensive subsistence agriculture
LET US SEE!
Shifting cultivation is a method of farming pratised by tribes living in dense tropical forests
Mostly, tapioca, cassava, yam, millets, maize and beans are grown in this kind of agriculture
They clear a patch of forested land by cutting and burning the trees. That's why it is also called as SLAH AND BURN
It leads to deforestation and soil erosion
Nomadic herding, practised by nomadic people who graze their animals on natural pastures, move from one place to another in search of fodder and water
Animals like camel, sheep, goats, cattles and yaks are raised. it is confined to sparsely populated parts of the world
Intensive agriculture: practised in densely populated regions . Uses a large amount of labour
Farmers make optimum utilization of the land and grow two or three crops annually with the help of irrigation, high yielding varieties of seeds, and natural manures and chemical fertilizers
The major crops grown by this method are rice wheat , millets, oilseeds, cotton and sugarcane.Thank you!!
