After a little bit of searching, she came across a pack of chicken in the freezer. Still having yet to wash her hands, she thawed out the chicken and began to touch the chicken she was preparing for dinner with her unwashed hands, completely contaminating the meat which both her and her husband would be eating later that night.

Later that night Zoe’s husband Gilbert came home from work, looking very happy about dinner.But little did he know, the food he was about to consume was contained.

Not even 48 hours later, both individuals had gotten a fever and were vomiting, both being symptoms of foodborne illness. Both Zoe and Gilbert took a trip to the hospital and were diagnosed with salmonella. They were informed that it should only last for about a week and were provided with antibiotics and got told to stay hydrated. How this could’ve been prevented is if Zoe washed her hands before and after using the restroom. When she touched the raw chicken with her dirty hands, it contaminated the whole meal, causing food borne illness.
