Troy references baseball while checking Cory. Troy states, "I'm gonna tell you what your mistake was. See... you swung at the ball and didn't hit it. That's strike one. See, you in the batter's box now. You swung and you missed. That's strike one. Don't strike out" (Wilson 56). Troy refers to baseball striking out basically saying I'm giving you three chances then that's it. It gives a sign of saying don't force my hand.

Csúszik: 2
Troy is the reason Cory's doesn't carry on with his dream to make it big in football. Cory states, “Papa done went up to the school and told Coach Zellman I can’t play football no more. Wouldn’t even let me play the game. Told him to tell the recruiter not to come” (Wilson 55). This shows how Troy stops Cory's opportunity to play football in front of a recruiter, taking away his chance to play football in the future. Not supporting Cory, Troy makes a decision without Cory's input leaving Cory with a lot of anger and frustration towards his father.

Csúszik: 3
Troy seems to always need dominance and control within his household. Troy states to Cory, “I don't care what nobody else say. I'm the boss… You understand? I'm the boss around here. I do the only saying what counts” (Wilson 38). Troy views himself as the voice of the house and doesn't care what anyone else has to say. He comes off aggressive to imply his dominance letting others know that he has the strong word.
