  • East your dessert last
  • Upon teachers’ request, there have been several signs and posters put up in the lunch area talking about eating healthy food or eating desserts and sugary snacks after the main dish. As Providing visual supports such as posters with essential steps has helped to remember following steps of a process and thinking through that process to work toward the most important tasks.
  • We are next!
  • Buddy has been practicing taking turns outside school as well (by engaging in more social activities that require staying in a line and taking turns such as grocery shopping with parents) and this practice has helped him to control his impulses, tantrums, and as a result he has less difficulty in self-regulating emotions during lunch time wait.
  • Buddy has recently started learning to play a musical instrument. Music can increase the brain's production of the chemical dopamine. And this activity has helped him guide his thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. So, Buddy struggles less to sit still and stay focused on what he is doing at the moment.
  • My wonderful student!
  • That's my son!
  • Buddy loves cooking and as recommended by his teacher, he has been enrolled in ‘young chef’ cooking classes. Following step by step instruction nature of cooking in combination with feeling and knowing that he is good at something have helped Buddy with inhibitory control and as a result he has less ongoing patterns of uncooperative and disruptive behavior.
  • Great job, Buddy!
  • Buddy’s teacher has attended a workshop about improving EF skills and has recommended Buddy’s parents to engage him with physical activities, as well as organized sports activities and martial arts, as research has shown physical activities require children to hold rules and strategies in mind and adapt flexibly to others' actions. Ever since he started Karate, he has been enjoying his lunchtime soccer games.
  • AMAZING!
  • OSS!!
  • Wondering: Nice job, Buddy!
  • During lunchtime, preferential seating close to the teacher and/or away from high-traffic areas has been set up for Buddy. He gets less distracted and as a result can pay better attention to his friends talking and this has helped him to resist the temptation to speak over others and let the conversation flow into different topics.
