- Viola is resuced by a sea worthy captain from a shipwreck that stranded her and her brother in different lands. Viola, curious as she may be, asks what country this may be. The captian tells her it is called, Illyria.

- Viola is concerned for her brother as they are both lost ashore. The captain advises her that he may still be alive.
- Act 1, Scene 3
- He is the perfect man for Olivia. He is rich as any man can be. he is the tallest in all of Illyria. He has passion for her.
- He is a big fool. How will you give your niece to him Sir Toby.
- Viola asks the captain for her help in changing her attire to fit in with the rest. She takes the name Cesario and presents herself as a servant to Duke Orsino.
- Maria, filled with anger, yells at Sir Toby for his drinking, shouting, and utterly disturbing behaviour while his niece, Lady Olivia, is mourning the death of her brother.
- Maria tells Sir Toby that his firend, Sir Andrew, is a big fool and not a perfect person for Olivia. But Sir Toby disagrees and says he is a good man for her.
