Hajj - The Journey

Storyboard Szöveg

  • Muslims make the intention for Hajj, entering what is known as the state of Ihram. This means that they pledge not to kill anything, do anything that may cause blood to flow, or even beautify themselves by putting on jewellery, perfume, or looking in the mirror. Fighting is also prohibited. They bathe (ghusl) and wear specific attire: for men, two white cloths; and for women, loose-fitting white garments. They then recite the Talbiyah.
  • Next, pilgrims complete Tawaf - they revolve around the Kaabah seven times. This is symbolic of how Muslims live their lives, with Allah always at the centre.
  • Next, the act of Saee is performed - Muslims run between Mounts Safa and Marwa, just as Hagar did when searching for water for her some Ismail. In the end, he dug his heels into the sand, and the holy Zam Zam spring gushed forth.
  • ArafatMuslims spend the day out in the hot sun, praying, as a reminder of Judgement Day. They also spend the night there.
  • Muslims then go to Muzdalifah, and collect 70 small pebbles. Some spend the night here.
  • Muslims then travel to a land which is around 8 km away from Mecca - Mina. Three nights are spent here. On each night, Muslims use the stones obtained earlier to pelt three devils, repenting. After this, Tawaf, Saee and a farewell Tawaf are performed. Hajj is complete!
