- The street used to be filled with noise in the “before”. Faintly, in her memory, she can hear the sounds of the emergency vehicles, honking car horns, music and singing at top volume. Instead…silence. Deafening silence. She quietly hums her old favorite song to cut the silence.

- Corner Store
- DING!!!
- As though the path had been carved out, Paige safely made her way to the corner store. “Ding!” The bell joyfully sounds as she opens the door.

- She walked the layout of the store in her typical east to west direction, snaking up and down the aisles. There is one package of toilet paper left! She squatted down to the lower shelf and reached deep into the shelf.
- Csúszik: 4
- Hey, kid! I need that! Hand it over!
- A gruff voice shouted from behind her. He was disheveled and his sweat smelled of onions and dirt. This man terrified her and she didn’t want him to see the terror in her eyes.
- Csúszik: 5
- Hey! That girl robbed me!. Grab her!
- In one swift motion, Paige squeezed the cellophane package tightly, planted her foot on the tiled floor, and pushed off into a sprint towards the door. The motion wasn’t as fluid as she had hoped it would be, but she managed to escape the man’s grasp.

- Owww! Stop! Oww!!
- Hey! Let go of her. She’s just a kid
- Her struggle distracted him momentarily, and she seized the opportunity. With all of her might, she stomped the top of his foot with her heel. Like lightning, Paige snatched the package of toilet paper and took off for the door.
