Long ago, the Glorg Glorgs resided peacefully in the darkness of a cave. Their only predators were the Burps, who were deaf, blind and relied on smell for hunting.
There were two types of Glorg Glorg: clothed and unclothed. Clothed Glorg Glorgs were smelly and easily caught by Burps, so they didn't make up much of the population.
A mutation in the gene A7143 was responsible for Glorg Glorgs being born with clothes. Individuals with alleles cc were born clothed. The condition was recessive. There was the ability for variation within clothing appearance, but it did not change the functionality.
Years later, the roof of the cave collapsed, filling the space with sunlight and killing all of the light-sensitive Burps.
Clothing provided protection from the sun, so the trait became adaptive due to the selective pressure of sun exposure caused by the habitat change.
Since clothing ended up being adaptive in the new environment, there was more reproduction in the population of clothed Glorg Glorgs. This resulted in an increase of their numbers, all living Happily Ever After.
