Testo Storyboard

  • Classical Conditioning occurs when two stimuli are paired and end up giving a response. Here, we see John (in blue) playing basketball for the first time with Kevin.
  • Hey! Pass me the ball!
  • Unfortunately, John is not the most athletic person and fails to catch the ball, causing him to get hit. The pain from getting hit is the unconditioned response. The ball hitting him is the unconditioned stimulus.
  • Ouch!
  • Are you ok?
  • John decides to head home for the day after that, and decides that he also wants to watch a basketball game for the first time.
  • While watching the game, when he sees the basketball, he winces. The sight of the ball is now the conditioned stimulus. Just the sight of it makes him wince, which is the conditioned response.
  • Ah, a ball! Oh it's just on the TV.
  • John gets better at basketball, and he can catch the ball before it hits him.
  • Yes! I made the shot!
  • Now, John does not wince when he sees the ball on TV. This is because of extinction, as the ball no longer hits him, so he does not wince in anticipation of pain.
  • Yes, my team won!
