- Containment of Russia
- The Truman Doctrine, also known as the policy of containment, was President Harry Truman's foreign policy that the US would provide political, military, and economic aid to democratic countries under the threat of communist influences in order to prevent the expansion of communism. 
- Space exploration
- The Space Race spawned pioneering efforts to lunch artificial satellites. It prompted competitive countries to send unmanned space probes to the Moon. Venus and Mars. It also made possible human spaceflight in low Earth orbit and to the moon. 
- Arms Race Between the United States & Russia
- With the end of the Cold War, the United States and Russia cut down on nuclear weapons spending. Fewer new systems were developed and both arsenals were reduced; although both countries maintain significant stocks of nuclear missiles. 
- Fall of the Berlin Wall 
- The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 was a pivotal moment, not just in the Cold War but in the history of modern Europe. It was brought about by political reforms inside the Soviet bloc, escalating pressure from the people of eastern Europe and ultimately, confusion over an East German directive to open the border. 
- Development of the Hydrogen Bomb 
- The radioactive particles would spread and settle over a period of minutes or hours, potentially carried for hundreds of miles by wind - contaminating the air, land and potentially water with substances capable of damaging cells in plants, animals, fish and humans.
