The French made a deal with the Americans. The French wanted money while the Americans wanted land. They traded but the Americans could not scope out the land beforehand.
Stephen Long
Lewis and Clark were the first Americans to explore Kansas. They thought the land was beautiful and livable. But they also said the water tasted like poop.
Jackson Speech
Zebulon Pike was one of the first to explore western Kansas. He described it as a desert and thought it was worthless. The reason why it was so dry was that it was in western Kansas.
Indian Removal Act
Stephen Long was the first person to reach Kansas by steamboat. He also thought it was a desert and had no petechial. That is how Western Kansas got the name "The Great American Desert".
Jackson thinks that the Indians should be moved out of the good land. Jackson is saying they should move to western Kansas. He thinks they should move to western Kansas because of what some of the explorers described it.
The white Americans forced the American Indians out of the good land. They forced them to go to western Kansas. The Indians found it very hard to live and survive there. It started a rivalry between the tribes.
