- Story takes place in a 1900's setting, our protagonist is Charlie Gordon, a individual with a presumed mental illness, making him have the intelligence of a mouse. In this scene, he's being interviewed in class to see if he'll be a suitable candidate for a new experiment that can make him three times smarter.
- Climax
- Dr. Strauss gives Charlie the mouse & test and finds out Charlie's desire to want to please others by being smarter, also finds out that Charlie is a perfect candidate for the operation. As he can't beat Algernon: the mouse whose had the same operation that would be tested on Charlie.
- Falling Action
- Charlie gets the operation done on him.
- Resolution
- Charlie end up becoming incredibly smart and this sudden change in behavior stigmatized him to his old colleagues, leading him to only have Algernon as a true friend. Ultimately, he got what he wanted, but it only further made him lonelier.
- Charlie notices Algernon's deterioration and begins to question why that is, he then confronts Dr.Strauss and Dr.Nemur about this event, they argue, then Charlie takes it into his own hands to handle to event and completes the rest of the project left by his Doctors. He finds that he'll be like Algernon soon and become like his old self.
- When Charlie reverts to his original self, he buries dead Algernon and decides to leave New York to travel elsewhere and turn a new leaf. He leaves all his studies and findings back at the lab.
