Jeanette is left home alone when a man from child services shows up. Jeanette refuses to let him in and lies, saying that everything is fine in their house and they are good. Jeanette tells her mother who paints a drowning woman, she then becomes a teacher and things are good for a while. The family go back to digging in the trash, when her and Lori confont their mother on what happened to their money, she refuses to tell them saying "it's not as easy as it looks" JEanette and Lori then write a budget so that they can save up and eventually be able to afford things others do, such as coal and new shoes. Jeanette tells her mother to give them the money so they can budget it, and she never does.
