  • How is that so, Medusa?
  • Socrates, beauty pageants objectify women.
  • Beauty pageants are just romanticized beauty pits. The discriminatory standards are restrictive in nature. It is absurd that these pageants lack inclusivity even with beauty as the primary factor. How is it empowering when women are blatantly told they cannot join if they do not meet the physical criterion? It isn’t empowerment when instead of feeling inspired, women feel that their inability to reach those standards is demeaning to their whole being.
  • I see, but do these beauty pageants only showcase one's physique?
  • No, pageants also serve as an avenue for women to showcase their character, wit, intellegence, advocacy, and talents.
  • Does this mean that some women view it as a motivation to improve themselves?
  • I suppose they do.
  • Could we see it as a platform for women to showcase their best qualities, talents, and knowledge in order to empower the entire female community as a whole rather than a toxic beauty pit?
  • Perhaps, it might be better that way!
  • Beauty pageants are much more than just a competition of the perceived attributes. The participants' outstanding accomplishments are lauded and acknowledged in front of a considerably larger audience. It is vital to be able to champion both beauty and brains under the patriarchal lens in a patriarchal society where historically people valued a woman's attractiveness over her intelligence.
