New Unit! You know what that means! It's time for an Assessment FOR learning! This can be in the form of observation during a student task, an official diagnostic, or through responses during classroom discussion. Assessment FOR Learning will inform me on how to plan the following lessons/the sequencing that needs to be completed for the unit. It also gives me the chance to activate any prior knowledge my students may have on the topic which is a great way to review and reintroduce for different entry points.

Ms. Leclerc gives us a K/W/L Chart at the beginning of new units so we can write down what we already know, what we want to know more and record our learning as an ongoing assessment throughout the unit. It is a great tool to track our progress and make sure all of our questions are answered.

Students also work collaboratively to assess each other's work during a Think, Pair, Share model. This way, they can monitor their learning, gather new ideas, and I can observe these conversations as assessment of the material.
