  • In his story "Harrison Bergeron," Kurt Vonnegut makes the point equality for us all is a mistaken goal. George and Hazel are abused by society, while at least they could shake off their son's death they didn't get to choose to feel that emotion. Competition between people is good because it lets us show what we are good at and allows us to be ourselves. Kurt shows being equal doesn't mean being balanced.
