  • Did you watch that doc on the civil rights movement last night?
  • Yeah! I didn't realize how closely tied civil rights and suffrage were back then.
  • Gaining the right to vote was a huge part of the fight. Without suffrage, there's no real voice in the system
  • Exactly. It's wild to think people had to protest just to be treated equally and have their vote
  • Makes you appreciate the rights we have now - and why it's important to protect them

  • It's crazy how back then people had to pay poll tax just to vote..
  • Yeah, and at the same time, young men were forced into the draft. Like you could be sent to war but can't vote unless you paid up.
  • Makes you think how much people had to fight just to have basic rights.

  • Hello, I want to take a moment to reflect on how everyday responsibilities - big and small - shape our role as citizens. During times of war, Americans stepped up and accepted that food, gas and other resources had to be rationed. It wasn't easy, but people understood it was necessary for the greater good. The same spirit of civic duty applies to something we take for granted: jury duty. It might seem like an inconvenience, but it's actually one of the most direct ways we participate in justice. Just like rationing helped support our country during tough times, serving on a jury helps keep our legal system fair and balanced. Both are reminders that being part of a community means sometimes putting others before ourselves.
