  • Welcome to our annual gathering, Aristotle. I see that you come with a friend
  • Thank you for inviting me again, George. I apologize for not informing you earlier. I have brought my friend Empedocles.
  • I am glad to hear that. Iam Empedocles of Acragas, a Greek philosopher. I believe the first living things to exist on Earth were organs that had lost their bodies.
  • There's no need to apologize. I also want you to meet my other friends who also have theories on evolution like us.
  • Through the power of love, these organs did eventually come together to become complete beings, though some of these grotesque and unfit for life beings had already perished.
  • Nice to meet you Empedocles! I am George-Louis Buffon, and I am a French naturalist and mathematician. I published the Natural History of animals. Its main idea is that species change over time and the change in species is brought about by the action of the environment.
  • Sorry for not introducing myself earlier. I am Aristotle, Greek philosopher and polymath. And, from what Empedocles said, I agree that a living organism changes through time
  • Well, I think it is my turn now. My name is Erasmus Darwin, and I am a naturalist, botanist, physician, philosopher and a well known poet. I expounded one of the earliest theories of evolution. My theory is that all organisms share a common ancestor.
  • It was nice to meet all of you. I am Jean Lamarck, and I am a naturalist and biologist. I believe that species could not become extinct; it simply evolves into different species. I am the first person who offered a scientific explanation of evolution.
  • Well, that was all great to hear. But, I do think we shall also enjoy tonight's gathering, right?
  • Right!
