  • Starting Population
  • Overproudction
  • Variation and Competition
  • The blobfish species lives in the depths of the sea where the water pressure is very high. They sometimes float to the top due to their body structure.
  • Adaptation
  • Too many blobfish are produced with not enough room or resources for them to all live and survive. Some blobfish look for prey.
  • Differential Survival
  • Not all the blobfish have swim bladders, some are born without them. Competition for prey begins as all blobfish compete for survival.
  • Differential Reproduction
  • The blobfish without swim bladders sink deeper into the sea than the ones with swim bladders. This allows the blobfish to reach their prey using less energy, making it much easier for them to get their food.
  • Since having no swim bladder is an adaption, blobfish born without them have a better survival rate because they're able to catch more prey effortlessly.
  • The blobfish that survive are the only ones that can reproduce and since the blobfish with the no swim bladder adaption has a higher survival rate, more blobfish without swim bladders are created. That causes the next generation of blobfish to have a higher percentage of ones born without swim bladders.
