  • Why wasn't the water pasteurized?
  • Claim 1: If you follow the instructions, the POW kits will always heat the water above the correct temperature (65 degrees Celsius), but some people didn't follow instructions.
  • Evidence Card A says that the starting temperature was 18 degrees. Then the equilibrium temperature was over 65 degrees. This supports claim 1 because claim 1 says that the kits can heat the water above 65 degrees, while claim 2 says that the kit doesn't heat the water above 65 degrees.
  • Evidence card B shows that a man got sick from the water he pasteurized. He got sick because he reused the cube he used for the water for his kids. This supports claim 1 because claim 1 says that the kits can heat the water above 65 degrees, people just don't follow instructions. So the man got sick for not following the instructions.
  • Evidence card C tells that a woman got sick and she used water from Lake Bogo. Evidence card D shows that the temperature for Lake Bogo's water is 13 degrees, too cold. So the woman got sick from using water from Lake Bogo.
  • In conclusion, all of these evidence cards support claim 1. So it's possible that they didn't follow instructions. So the kits can heat the water above the correct temperature (65 degrees), but people didn't follow the instructions, which is shown in the evidence cards. This shows that when you follow the instructions, the kits should be able to heat up the water above 65 degrees, making the water safe to drink.
