Chapter 6: One February day, the director of the Judenrat called for a ghetto wide meeting. Yanek and his father went to go see what he had to say. The Judenrat had a terrible request. The Nazis ordered them to give up 7000 Jews to be deported. He wanted to give them those who cannot work. So, the Judenrat begged mothers and fathers to give up their children. Everyone turned scared. They didn’t want their kids to be sent to “resettlement camps” also known as death camps.
Chapter 9: One day Yanek was working at a tailor shop in Krakow. Yanek and the other workers were taken on a big truck to Plaszow Concentration Camp. He tried to find a way out of the truck but he saw the Nazis with machine guns and he knew he would get shot on sight. The women on the truck were crying and begging to go say goodbye to their families but the soldiers wouldn’t let them.
Chapter 14: Yanek was now at Trzebinia Concentration Camp. His new job there was to carry stones back and forth across the muddy compound and dig holes six feet deep and fill them back in again. It was all a game to the Germans. “We were the ball, to be kicked around for their sport.”
