  • Fall of the Western Roman Empire
  • Rome fell to a Germanic tribe called the Visigoths after hundred of years of rule. Rome was conquered by a German barbarian by Odoacer, who later forced Romulus Augustutlus to give up his leadership. After Rome’s fall comes the Dark Ages of Europe.
  • The Battle of Tours
  • In parts of Europe the Umayyads conquered most of North Africa.  The Islamic armies conquer the Iberian Peninsula and decide to take control of Europe. They first attempted to take over France but were stopped shortly after by the Frankish army. The two armies fought and the Islamic armies were pushed back to the Iberian Peninsula. 
  • The Great Schism
  • There was the East and the West in Europe. They did not agree with each other’s beliefs, teachings and thinking, which lead to a “Great Schism”. It made the East into the Eastern Orthodox Church and the West into the Roman Catholic Church. 
  • The First Crusade
  • The only successful Crusade was the First Crusade . It was a military campaign that would be led by Pope Urban the second and their plan was to recapture Jerusalem from the Muslims. Crusades were significantly more unsuccessful and Western Europe was attacked by other countries.
  • The Signing of the Magna Carta
  • England had lot of problems in 1215. The king during that time was King John. He was about to be overthrown by his own people so John agreed to a charter of liberties(Magna Carta), which was a law used for rulers of England and it made them  have a “rule of law.” The Magna Carta was celebrated later as a symbol of Freedom from oppression.
  • Reconquista
  • From 718 to 1492 there was a wars between the Christian Kingdoms and the Muslim Moors. These wars are known as the Reconquista. The Christian kingdom won the wars and forced any Muslims or Jews that did not convert to Chistianity.as
