  • By: Lucy Yu
  • The Roman Empire was a flourishing society at its peak, but eventually fell due to many factors including Barbarians attacking, the split between the East and the West, and cultural changes; however, its legacy has stayed with us up to this day.
  • Octavian/Augustus Caesar
  • Due to factors including a growing gap between the rich and the poor, military disruption, and Julius Caesar's rise to power and his reforms, the Roman Republic collapsed.
  • After my father/granduncle, Julius Caesar, was stabbed to death, civil war broke out, destroying the already decaying Roman Republic. I joined forces with Mark Antony and Lepidus as the Second Triumvirate. However, I defeated them as well. I became the unchallenged ruler of Rome, accepting the title of Augustus and imperator.

  • 27 BC-AD 180 was a time of peace and prosperity known as the Pax Romana. This is when Rome was at the peak of its power.
  • Many changes occurred in Rome during the Pax Romana including:
  • GOVERNMENT
  • I stabilized the frontier and created a government system of bureaucracy. I set up a civil service where I paid workers (plebeians and former slaves) to manage the affairs of government, which was effective in carrying out daily operations like grain supply, tax collection, and the postal system.
