Why are we in this rainforest? It's really hot and humid! And the thousands of animals are making me nervous!
There's more to this African rainforest, Mary. Right now, we're in the Congo River Basin, which is right by the equator. We're currently in the DRC's portion of the rainforest, but it stretches across six other countries! Unfortunately, this forest is facing severe deforestation.

The Savanna
I hate it here! It's supposed to be winter, but it's really dry! And I'm pretty sure I saw a fire earlier!
That's just the way the savannas are. We didn't arrive in the summer rain season, when everything is green and plants are healthy. We came in the winter dry season. It's common for grass fires to occur during this period. The problem is that he population has been gradually increasing, leaving animal habitats to be taken over by buildings and roads.

Marlene, did you know that the Sahara Desert gets 0-3 inches of precipitation per year! Therefore, the region is incredibly hot and dry.
Callie, I didn't know that. Thank you for sharing.
