  • The other day, I tried to push a heavy statue that was there in our garden. But, it didn't move. Why is that?
  • This is due to Newton's third law of motion. It states that, every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
  • How does that affect why the statue didn't move? Could you tell me more about it?
  • Sure! You see, you exerted a force, which we call 'action' on the statue. The statue, in turn, exerted a force on you, which we call 'reaction'.
  • Your 'action' and the statue's 'reaction' were equal and acting in the opposite directions. Which means, the forces balanced out. Thus, the statue didn't move.
  • Oh! That makes sense now! Thank you so much for explaining it to me, Riya!
