  • The setting is introduced in the narrator's bedroom. He is awoken from his slumber by a loud tapping. The narrator is depressed because of the loss of his wife Lenore.
  • The Raven flies in and sits himself onto the statue of Pallas. The narrator asks the Raven three questions.
  • The narrator demands the Raven to leave. The Raven says "nevermore" and remains upon the statue of Pallas.
