  • Sir, it 's a unit of time measurement
  • 1
  • Good day everyone!Today, we were going to talk aboutThe GeologicTimescale
  • you got that right!
  • 3
  • taken by a process or sequence of events.
  • Do you have any idea what a Timescale is?
  • What are those four-level hierarchy of time intervals, sir?
  • The geologic time scale is the “calendar” for events in Earth history. Moreover, it is a system of chronological dating that classifies geological strata in time.
  • Geologic time is divided into a four-level hierarchy of time inervals.
  • moving forward
  • 1.) Eons - are the longest portions of geologic time 2.) Era – smaller time interval that divides the eon.
  • Those are the definition of Four-level hierarchy in Geologic Timescale
  • 3.) Period – eras are subdivided into periods.4.) Epoch – finersubdivision of time is possible and the periods are frequently subdivided into epochs.
  • Next, I will give you an example of significant events that happen using geologic time scale
  • ~ Eon ~ Era ~ Period ~ Epoch
  • Phanerozoic Eon
  • EXAMPLE #01
  • The Phanerozoic Eon is the current geologic eon in the geologic time scale, and the one during which abundant animal and plant life has existed. It covers 538.8 million years to the present, and it began with the Cambrian Period when animals first developed hard shells preserved in the fossil record. It is divided into three eras: the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic, which are further subdivided into 12 periods.
  • Precambrian Eon
  • The Precambrian was the "Age of Early Life." During the Precambrian, continents formed and our modern atmosphere developed, while early life evolved and flourished. Precambrian time covers the vast bulk of the Earth's history, starting with the planet's creation about 4.5 billion years ago and ending with the emergence of complex, multicelled life-forms almost four billion years later.
